The most important piece of equipment in a delayed coker unit is the fired heater: an Amec Foster Wheeler delayed coker heater lies at the heart of the SYDEC process and all delayed cokers we design use an Amec Foster Wheeler fired heater, delivering economical and flexible operation with guaranteed on-stream factors.
Our delayed coker heater designs are based on many years of experience. We have provided over 130 delayed coker heaters in over 60 plants worldwide.
In this demanding service, carefully controlled time/temperature profiles are critical for profitable production. Furnace residence time must be rigidly controlled to avoid premature coke formation in the tubes, resulting in a unit shut-down.
On delayed coker units, our fired heater specialists work with our process teams to develop the optimum design tailored to our clients' specific operating conditions, as well as designing for conditions such as spalling operations.
Two types of design are available for this service:
- Single-fired cabin- or box-type heaters with horizontal tubes and bridge wall
- Terrace Wall™ double-fired heaters, sloped-wall type, with horizontal tubes.
