Amec Foster Wheeler is providing the FEED and EPC for the new 140,000 tonnes per year neodymium polybutadiene (Nd-PBR) rubber facility on Jurong Island in Singapore, expected to be the largest of its kind in the world.
Built next to LANXESS’ 100,000 tonnes per year synthetic butyl rubber facility, the largest of its type in Asia, for which Amec Foster Wheeler was also the EPCM contractor.
Nd-PBR is used in tyre manufacture and LANXESS says that its use reduces rolling resistance and increases vehicle energy efficiency compared with conventional tyre rubbers. It also reduces tyre abrasion, playing a significant role on making cars safer as well as ‘greener’ and more economical.
“We have developed an excellent working relationship with LANXESS and we are looking forward to further strengthening and building a long-term business relationship based on our performance in delivering LANXESS’ projects safely and successfully.”
