The new Elizabeth McArthur Agricultural Institute (EMAI) facility is the only high containment animal, plant and aquatic bio-security diagnostic facility in NSW and is used to maintain Australia’s disease free status in international livestock and horticultural markets.
The new EMAI facility is made up of two new buildings for a state of the art facility providing PC2/QC2 and PC3/QC3 biological research, animal holding and response unit for the NSW state government. The facility includes animal, insectary, plant & microbiological laboratories and a dedicated PC3 biological liquid waste treatment system.
An innovative move early on in the project was the introduction of an alternative Decanting Strategy that included the design and construction of fully certified PC2/QC2 temporary generic containment laboratories. This significantly reduced the construction period by approximately nine months.
