Earth Day: Glaciers activity

Summary
Earth Day: Glaciers activity

Some people say that a glacier is a ‘river of ice’. It is not just a frozen river! Glaciers form over many years. If we think of some mountains, a lot of snow falls in winter and not all of it melts in the summer. Over many years the snow builds up. The snow on the bottom gets squashed (compacted) and turns into ice. Once the pile of snow and ice becomes big enough, it starts to flow (deform) very slowly, like a river in slow motion.
