Transport planning

Amec Foster Wheeler provides transport planning services from initial development feasibility through to the implementation of schemes and their evaluation.

The quality of transport provision for any proposed development is often key to the feasibility of the project as a whole. The needs of all transport users must be met within the relevant policy framework and the commercial constraints of the proposals. Our approach is multi-modal, balancing the need of different road users and the future proofing of sites to changes in technology and climate resilience.

Amec Foster Wheeler’s transport planning specialists routinely collaborate with other in-house teams, and as a consequence, staff have a broad depth of technical understanding and the ability to work effectively with other skill sets.

Our core services include:

We prepare transport related strategy and policy documents including parking, air quality and impacts of technology.

Our in-house consultation team ensures major schemes and infrastructure have the right level of consultation from project inception.

We understand the viability of a site from a transport perspective and providing innovative and sustainable solutions.

Either development or voluntarily led, we ensure consideration is given to all modes and can be monitored effectively. We can also undertake travel plan surveys.

Our team considers the requirements for the delivery of a development or event, including effects on roads and public rights of way and the need for closures or diversion, highway directional signing, parking restrictions and provision.

We use a variety of industry approved software for clients to test and demonstrate the implications of development to local authorities and the general public.

Our experience includes the feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of highways, junctions and multi-modal schemes, including signal-controlled facilities, sustainable transport infrastructure, traffic calming, signing and road markings.

We advise and negotiate on planning conditions and work with the client as an integral part of the inquiry team to ensure that a robust and coherent case is put forward.

Our team evaluates scheme impacts through combined data analysis including surveys, interviews and recorded measurements.
