We are leading a consortium of European consultant partners to provide specialist technical support to the European Commission (EC) DG Environment as part of the Common Implementation Strategy for the Water Framework Directive. The project involves attending meetings, the preparation of background technical documents and taking minutes. We organised two high profile workshops for the EC to address some important issues that were identified from the first round of river basin planning.
This is a key project win because the work had previously been carried out for over a decade by WRc, a UK based consultancy.
"This project is a great opportunity for us to get first hand experience of working for the Commission, getting to know the people and better understanding (from the inside) the technical issues faced for implementing the most major water related piece of legislation in Europe for 30 years."
Rob Moore, Associate Director, Water Quality, Amec Foster Wheeler
We will lead a consortium of consultant partners who have all worked closely with the European Commission DG Environment over the last decade to develop the Water Framework Directive and who have overseen the implementation of the Directive in the European Union.
We were chosen because we had a very good understanding of the work carried out in the Common Implementation Strategy and how this may change in the future. Our role is to lead the work overall, work closely with a lead partner (The Institute for European Environmental Policy), organise with the European Commission two workshops and carry out technical work.
