Simulations identify optimum solutions for refinery upgrade

The oil refinery at Mongstad in western Norway is a modern highly-upgraded plant with an annual capacity of near 12 million tonnes of crude. It is the largest facility of its kind in Norway.

We used high-level process simulations to identify the optimum technical solution for the refinery upgrade.

Statoil’s refinery upgrade project aims to address crude feedstock flexibility requirements and to increase diesel production, including the production of ultra-low-sulphur diesel.

“This is an important project for Statoil to improve the competitiveness of the Mongstad Refinery. We are looking forward to benefitting from Amec Foster Wheeler's comprehensive refining and hydrocarbon process technology expertise.”
