Repsol’s Petronor Refinery: A complex project with unique challenges

We were the EPCm contractor for the new delayed coker, based on our leading SYDECSM technology, at Repsol’s Petronor Refinery in Bilbao in northern Spain. This was a complex project with some unique challenges.

We executed safely, receiving the maximum incentive fee for safety. A real achievement considering that the coker was installed in a live, very congested area of the facility with limited access. The coker started up successfully in November 2011. More than one year later and more than six months from guarantee tests, the unit was reported to be operating in accordance with the specifications. This confirms that our customers can have real confidence in the successful outcome of delayed coker projects if they engage us not only to provide our leading delayed coking technology, but also to design and build the coker complex.

We have a long-standing relationship with Repsol, and also completed the EPCm for the delayed coking complex and a vacuum distillation unit at Repsol’s largest-ever investment in Spain, at its Cartagena Refinery.
