National Grid, one of the nation’s largest electricity and gas delivery companies, selected Amec Foster Wheeler joint venture, the NorthEast Power Alliance (NEPA), to help deliver part of its U.S. electricity transmission investment program.
The contract is one of two that will deliver a total of around US$1.7 billion towards National Grid’s U.S. transmission investment program during the next five years. A separate contract has been inked with another joint venture.
"The size of our investment in New York meant we had to look at new ways to ensure we deliver our investment program safely and efficiently. This contract will enable the backbone of our electricity transmission network to deliver reliable service to our customers for years to come."
Masheed Saidi, EVP and COO US Transmission, National Grid
Notably, the contract takes a collaborative alliance approach in which the project partners and National Grid form an integrated team that shares common goals and resources, an approach adopted successfully by Amec Foster Wheeler and National Grid on major infrastructure programs in the UK.
As part of the collaborative alliance, NEPA will be providing programme management, project management and engineering services. These contracts will help National Grid reinforce the backbone of their electricity grid, so they continue to provide safe and reliable service to customers for years to come.
