Our fuels programme offers the full spectrum of POL capabilities to the U.S. military

One of Amec Foster Wheeler’s biggest growth areas since 2012 is the mission-critical fuels systems work we are performing worldwide for United States Department of Defense agencies. We are frequently contracted by the Navy, Air Force, Army, and Defense Logistics Agency for our expertise with fuel transmission pipelines, bulk receiving and storage facilities, truck/railcar loading/unloading stations, and aircraft fuel hydrant systems.

We have assembled a team of industry veterans who manage our $120M+ DoD Fuels Program in locations across the globe from Greece to Italy to Spain and beyond; the team includes licensed fueling engineers, API-certified fueling construction managers, licensed fire suppression engineers, fuel systems designers, schedulers, cost estimators, and specialized project managers. This team performs the full suite of fuels services: facility assessments, system planning, full-service and sustainable design, value engineering, environmental services, construction management, and facility commissioning.

“The team provided outstanding support to me and our Liquid Fuels Maintenance shop in keeping us informed of all their activities and findings. With the USAF being a tenant at Lajes Field to the Portuguese Air Force, they were more than patient with all the difficulties that we encounter in complying with Host Nation requirements. They performed an outstanding job, exceeding all the contract requirements. Their professional attitudes ensured timely execution of the project.”
Mr. Jose Barbosa, Field Chief of Construction, 65th CES

We consistently deliver high-caliber work and as a result we are the preferred contractor at Lajes Field, a key international refueling site and the United States Air Force’s second largest fuel storage facility, located in Azores, Portugal. A representative example of recent work at Lajes is the repair of bulk fuel storage tanks of up to 10 million gallons in capacity and our assurance of technical and regulatory compliance with a large number of US and EU standards. We’ve been awarded similar work in Japan, Iceland, and Turkey.
