EPC services for coal-to-natural gas conversion

Amec Foster Wheeler provided the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPC) services for the coal to natural gas conversion at the Bremo Bluff power station in Virginia, US.

We converted Units 3 and 4 from pulverized coal to natural gas-fired operation. As well, Unit 3 now produces about 83 MW and Unit 4 produces about 168 MW on 100% natural gas.

As the EPC contractor, Amec Foster Wheeler provided EPC services for the entire facility. Our scope included the design and installation of: Gas burners and gas ignitors, Flame scanners and cooling system, overfire air system, spray attemperators, gas supply line from metering station, gas regulating station and valve racks, DCS upgrade including BMS & I/O expansion, replacement CEMS system & auxiliary boiler
