Possum Point power station is a 650-acre site located approximately thirty miles south of Washington, DC, that overlooks the Potomac River and the Quantico Creek. We were awarded the contract for the installation unit six the facilities 550MW combined cycle power plant that consisted of two General Electric gas fired turbines and one 200MW steam turbine.
Our scope included, in addition to all equipment and system installations, the installation of one eight cell cooling tower, water treatment facility, one two million gallon demin water tank, one 2.25 million gallon fuel oil tank, fuel unloading facility, three transformers, all underground ductbanks and utilities, piping for condenser to cooling tower piping river water intake pump system, and final site work / roads.
The project, located adjacent to an existing coal fired power plant facility, was a ground up installation through start-up and commissioning. Unit six – reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly - went commercial in July of 2003. The units burn less fuel and produce fewer emissions than comparably sized conventional units.
