Canada’s industry first - environmental assessments approvals

At the Rainy River Project in Northwest Ontario, New Gold plans to build, operate and eventually reclaim an open pit and underground gold and silver mine with our help. Construction is currently underway.

Predicted to bring significant economic value to the region, receiving the required environmental assessments and approvals is essential to the project’s success. We collected four years of environmental baseline data including: aquatics, terrestrial, hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, species at risk and socio-economics to support the environmental assessment and approvals processes.

Our work led to the first Federal Standard Environmental Assessment approved for any industry under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, as well as the first mine approved through an Individual Environmental Assessment process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
