Six years ago, Shell UK Limited brought together three Integrated Services Contractor companies (AMEC, PSN and Wood Group) to deliver an unprecedented scope of services as part of a revolutionary long-term contract.
The relationship, based on 30 years of working together, hinged around the three companies forming an alliance with no boundaries; all working for the greater good of the whole. The new company was called Sigma 3 and at its height employed over 2,000 people, supporting up to 16 platforms. Its role was to service Shell’s assets in the North Sea, including engineering, major capital projects, support services and maintenance. Throughout the contract Sigma 3 has kept to the initial vision – Proudly Delivering Excellence – and the original revolutionary promises.
"We believe that the Sigma 3 joint venture owes its success to its people and their commitment to delivery to Shell. The way in which the Sigma 3 team is based inside the Shell organisation gives us a seamless alignment and insight into the real problems being addressed daily in keeping the assets running safety and efficiently."
The Sigma 3 Board
The alliance has become a something of touchstone not just in the global oil and gas industry, but for other industries too. Sigma 3 has demonstrated continued safety performance improvement.
